Where We Began
Ten years ago, we stood before God to make a lifelong promise. On that day, Deon and Nicole were saying "I do" to what began as an unexpected love story. It was unexpected because it did not begin as a quest to find each other. Instead it grew over time from an acquaintance in our professional lives (mentoring, coaching, and social work) to a friendship that grew from our shared passion of helping, teaching and protecting youth. This led to a relationship that grew even more from friends to best friends and ultimately a love that was founded in another shared passion, a love for God.
The Journey So Far
A decade later, we can say that the unexpected journey has been richer, deeper, and more profoundly rewarding than we ever could have imagined. Over the past ten years, we have grown together into a true relationship in every sense of the word. We have grown into our blended family. We've celebrated incredible highs, navigated inevitable lows, and learned that love isn't just a feeling—it is a choice with actions that are required for the true purpose of marriage, a covenant before God between a man and a woman. This is what we want to share with those who see our love for one another, it is first our love for God and our covenant keeping love for one another that keeps our marriage strong.
"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12
With God as our main strand in our relationship, we recognize that our love for him is where our strength resides.
We are living proof of covenant keeping. By weaving our lives together with God as that vital third strand, our bond has only grown stronger, more resilient, and more deeply rooted with every passing year. Our marriage isn't just sustained by our love for each other, but by the grace and strength that comes from The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit that abides in us.
Why We Are Renewing Our Vows
Reaching ten years is a milestone that deserves to be celebrated as a testament to endurance, forgiveness, and unwavering commitment. We are renewing our vows today not because our original promises have faded, but because they have matured and continue to grow. We want to look each other in the eye, bearing the wisdom of the last decade, and proudly say, "We thank God for bringing us together and we have every intention to keep our covenant with Him and each other as not only husband and wife, but as best friends forever and a brother and sister in Christ."
As we look toward the next ten years and beyond, we hold tightly to the truth of Jesus words:
"Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate."Mark 10:9
Thank you to everyone who has supported us, prayed for us, and loved us throughout this decade. We can't wait to celebrate this reaffirmation of our love, our faith, and our family with all of you. Here is to the next chapter as our unexpected love story continues!
